WATERVILLE – Erica Gallant of Peru represented Thomas College students during a beam-raising ceremony for a 100-bed high tech residence hall at the college. A senior management major and president of the Student Senate at Thomas, Gallant spoke to the faculty, staff, students and alumni at the ceremony before climbing in an industrial lift.
It carried her about 60 feet in the air so she could bolt the final structural beam for the new residence hall in place. The beam had been signed by various college supporters.
Also participating in the ceremony were sophomore Jason Greene of Addison; college Trustees Kenneth Viens and Francis Bartlett Jr., both of Waterville, Kathie Leonard of Mechanic Falls, Brian Bernatchez of Belgrade Lakes, Frederick Best Jr. of Winthrop, Edwin Carboni of Sherborn, Mass., Doublas Cutchin of Fairfield, John Dexter Jr. of Portland, William Dubay of Auburn and Paris, France, Mark Johnston of Augusta, James Lynch of Waterville; and college President George Spann
The new residence hall is scheduled to open for the 2003-2004 school year. The three-story building will be part of a campus-wide computer network.
