Twenty-six Canton residents approved all 45 articles up for a vote during their Town Meeting which took place at the fire station on Thursday.

Marianne Hutchinson is a general assignment reporter for the Rumford Falls Times. She has worked for the Times for three years covering the RSU 10 and RSU 56 school boards encompassing the towns of Rumford, Mexico, Dixfield and other nearby towns in the River Valley area. She also covers the selectmen’s and town meetings and other activities of the towns of Canton and Andover. Marianne has lived in Lewiston for 33 years with her husband, Dennis. She graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a degree in Journalism and advertising. Before becoming a reporter for the Times she held various positions as an educational technician for English as a Second Language students of Lewiston schools and as a proofreader and production editor for Pine Tree Composition, a former typesetting company in Lewiston. In her spare time, she loves to read books, especially memoirs, and articles from newspapers and magazines. She also likes to attend exercise classes at the YMCA in Auburn or go for bike rides with her husband and friends. During the winter months she enjoys snowshoeing and cross-country skiing with family and friends.

$29.94 million RSU 10 budget approved by all seven district towns on Tuesday
By a vote of 469-234, the towns of Rumford, Mexico, Hartford, Buckfield, Roxbury, Hanover and Sumner approved the Regional School Unit 10 $29.94 million spending plan for 2021-22 during referendum voting on Tuesday. The district was also approved to spend funds on a study for a new pre-K through grade 8 elementary school, and adult education and for the Oxford Hills Technical School’s 2021-22 budget.

RSU 56 voters from Canton, Carthage, Dixfield and Peru approved a 2021-22 school budget of $12.97 million by a vote of 354-163 during their referendum vote on Tuesday.

Rumford-based school district sets budget vote
The $29.94 million proposal for RSU 10 will get an initial vote Wednesday at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford.
