Serge Abergel, an employee of Hydro-Quebec, recently contributed to your paper. While this is a free country, and he can say as he pleases, he is not from this country. Rather, he’s a representative of a utility owned by the Canadian government, a utility that is spending record amounts on a propaganda campaign to force […]

Ray Cooley: Public bonfire ‘moose’ better use of money
What a really good use of money for virus relief — a masked moose in Bethel to help educate proper virus safety. As if everyone doesn’t already know safety procedures. If the rest of those relief millions are destined to be spent in such other useful schemes, here is a suggestion of how to use […]
Richard Aishton, in rebuttal: NECEC will never be good for Maine
In light of the recent Maine Supreme Court decision regarding the unconstitutionality of the referendum on the NECEC, I have a few comments about this entire process. The Maine Public Utilities Commission is comprised of three people in appointed positions and none of whom have any educational or practical work experience in the natural resource […]
Linda Wooten: We must preserve in-person voting
At this unprecedented time in history due to COVID-19 and the U.S. Postal Service not up to mail delivery capacity, nor the municipalities up to capacity as before the pandemic and before operational slowdown, those at the helm want to mandate absentee ballots only for our general election. I beg to differ due to my […]

Bob Stone: I support Laurel Libby
It has recently come to my attention that Laurel Libby, a resident of Auburn, is running for election to become a Maine State House representative. I support her candidacy wholeheartedly and encourage others to do so as well. Ms. Libby would bring some desperately needed attributes to the political scene in Augusta. Her life experience […]
Carl Beckett: Absentee voting is a thing of ease
Absentee ballots are available in the surrounding towns and city offices. I am going to vote by absentee ballot for the election on Nov. 3, 2020. The ballots have already arrived at my town office. Sometime soon I will drop by the office and obtain my ballot in its own envelope. At my leisure I […]
Bob Sipe: Bettyann Sheats stands up for us
I have known Bettyann Sheats for about 6 years, we attend the same church and I know first-hand what a hard worker she is. She is an Army veteran, a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a former helicopter pilot. Bettyann will use the same drive and dedication that she used […]
Dorothy Peters: Vote for strength of character
I would like to endorse Dave Duguay for commissioner in Oxford County. I have known Dave for 40 years and I can tell everyone that he is a tireless worker. Dave retired as a store manager. In every store, his community service skills were clearly displayed. If he could benefit any need or group, Dave […]
