In discussion with my dentist in late May regarding the non-essential status of dentistry in Maine, Susan Collin’s involvement in the resolution was mentioned. My dentist had delayed 90-plus emergencies. In the words of Susan Collins to the Maine Dental Association, “Dentists tell me that cavities that could have been filled are now going to […]

Pam Chenea: Rather a mask than a ventilator
The number of deaths from Coronavirus in the United States is rapidly approaching 190,000, and still President Trump is not wearing a mask or supporting those who do. While cases continue to go up, he’s pretending that we’re “turning the corner “ and getting a handle on the virus. He’s lying. We all know he’s […]
Beth Bell: Voting for Laurel Libby
People just want to live their lives in peace. That is what was expressed to me by Laurel Libby, District 64 candidate for state representative. I agree. I want peaceful enjoyment of my property, authority to make my own decisions about my health and well-being, and to operate my business without undo governmental interference. For […]
Mike Newsom: Jen Blastow is right for District 72
Jen Blastow is running for the State House in District 72, to serve Oxford, Otisfield and Mechanic Falls. She is a hard-working nurse practitioner and mom. She and her family have given a lot to our local community, particularly at the school and the library. My daughter, Olivia, is a classmate of Blastow’s younger daughter, […]
Bob Stone: A vote away from socialism
When I drop my ballot off at Auburn City Hall in a few weeks, it will include a vote for Matt Leonard for State Senate. I did my research as to Matt’s opponent, a Democrat. I’ve never met the gentleman, never had as much of a word with him, and he appears to be an […]
Elizabeth Pimentel: Rangeley’s can-do spirit
As a summer resident of Rangeley from The Bronx, I was shocked when this summer’s microburst hit our hamlet of 30 homes. Hundreds of trees fell in my wooded neighborhood, knocking down power lines and tearing them from camps. Trees landed on sheds, vehicles, homes, and roads, blocking access by utility trucks. I was stunned […]
Ron Russell: Time for Susan Collins to go
In my travels throughout the country, I, as a liberal, was happy to acknowledge the two Republican women senators in my state who represented all the people of Maine. Especially Olympia Snowe, a senator I greatly admired, who put Mainers above party loyalty. Since President Trump took office and began minimizing anyone that did not […]
Harry ‘Dutch’ Dresser: Support for Scott Cole
I was pleased to learn that Scott Cole is a candidate for Oxford County commissioner. Mr. Cole is not affiliated with a political party and is, therefore, running as an independent. I first knew Scott during my terms as chairman of the board of selectmen in Bethel when he served as town manager in our […]
Leonard Pitts: Fine, let’s talk Chicago.
If there seems heightened energy behind the protests over police shootings of unarmed African-American people, that reflects not a disparity of concern but, rather, of frustration.
Jonathan Hale: Biden will be good for Maine
I grew up in Skowhegan, graduated from Bates, and worked for Sen. George Mitchell. Today, I am both a Washington, D.C. and a Maine lawyer. I have seen firsthand when our government serves working people and when it fails them. Trump has endangered Mainers and hurt our economy. Margaret Chase Smith was my childhood friend. […]
