Phillips, Strong, Kingfield continue exploring school district withdrawal

Three of the four towns served by Phillips-based Maine School Administrative District 58 are exploring withdrawing from the district.

The town will purchase a new 2025 Case backhoe loader.

Voters will consider purchasing a use or a new backhoe loader during a special town meeting Tuesday.

It took firefighters nearly 45 minutes to locate the fire spotted by a Phillips resident on Wheeler Hill Road through the ridgeline.

Avon, Kingfield, and Phillips approve budget while Strong narrowly opposes it.

The fire at a Franklin County home on Avon Valley Road was reported early Sunday afternoon, officials said.

Kingfield will vote in September on whether to explore leaving Maine School Administrative District 58, home of Mt. Abram High School.

MSAD 58 directors reduced the overall proposed budget by $102,233 on Thursday after a first public vote failed.

The public hearing will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Town Hall and a vote is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on July 22 at the Town Hall.

Avon, Kingfield, Phillips and Strong approved continuing with the two-step voting process for the next three years.
