Joan Macri: Reelect Sheats to House District 64
As a long-time debate coach, I choose elected officials carefully. I do my research, and that research is not influenced by the number of signs a candidate has, nor the glossiness of their pamphlets. I use the Internet to see what positions candidates have taken in the past, and how that matches with how they […]
John Cleveland: Keep Claxton, Sheats in Augusta
In this age of enormous campaign spending and special interest funding of political campaigns, I am very proud of Sen. Ned Claxton and Rep. Bettyann Sheats for choosing to be clean election candidates. As clean election candidates they only accept $5 contributions from voters in their legislative districts, which is matched by the state’s Clean […]
Rudolph Ziehm: Trump ignores truth, justice, decency
There is no way President Trump will ever win a majority of voters. I find myself gagging on his lies. He preaches law and order, while ignoring truth, justice and decency. He skews the messages from our health agencies in a very lethal game of propaganda, all the while preparing, once more, to defeat the […]
Leonard Pitts Jr.: We expect better of Joe Biden
Asked about race at Tuesday’s presidential debate, one candidate gave a very disappointing answer. The other was Donald Trump. Which is not to suggest Trump had satisfactory answers. To the contrary, asked by moderator Chris Wallace why America should trust him to heal its racial wounds, he was, as is his norm, nonsensical and miles […]
Ron Ridley: Senate Black supports Maine’s loggers
I support the reelection of state Sen. Russell Black of Wilton (R-Franklin), District 17. I own a third-generation logging business in Jay and work with my son in the Maine woods. When the Pixelle Specialty Solutions mill exploded this spring we lost over 75% of our business overnight. Sen. Black immediately went to work looking […]
Justin Merrill: Reelect Black to Senate District 17
I am writing to support the reelection of state Sen. Russell Black of Wilton (R-Franklin), District 17. My father, George Merrill, and I operate a small family logging business in Jay, and we are proud of what we do. We want the logging industry in Maine to have a future. Sen. Black has been a […]

Catherine Carey: Nutting supports school students, staff
For several years I served on the SAD 52 Board of Directors with Rep. Joshua Morris, House District 75. I have been very disappointed by some of his votes regarding education. In the last biennial budget an effort was made to elevate the profession of teaching by doing the following: increasing the student GPA, increasing […]
Diane Grandmaison: Reelect Craven to House District 59
Rep. Margaret Craven is running for reelection for House District 59. Lewiston is the second largest city in Maine and has been well represented by Craven. She connects well with people, and is a born leader you will run into everywhere – at meetings, public events, volunteering and doing fundraising for charities. A high energy […]
